Associate Director of Communications, Editor of Rhodes Magazine

Rhodes College is seeking a creative thinker with excellent editing, writing and storytelling skills, and extensive print and online magazine publishing expertise, to assume the position of Associate Director of Communications and Editor of Rhodes magazine. Memphis Child Advocacy Center

The Memphis Child Advocacy Center is well-respected agency in the Memphis/Shelby County community and is also a model child advocacy center nationwide. At the CAC, a team of highly trained child interviewers, law enforcement officers, case workers, therapists, and prosecutors work together to respond to reports of child sexual abuse and severe physical abuse. They work together as a team to ensure the best possible outcome for victimized children in terms of justice and healing. In addition, our prevention team is teaching adults across our community how to protect children, stopping sexual abuse from happening in the first place.

A special projects intern is needed. Hours are flexible and negotiable. As a not-for-profit agency, we don’t have the resources to pay a student, but can provide a great experience with meaningful projects.

Interns will receive a tour of the center (including our partner agencies), go through our online orientation, and observe some team activities as part of their orientation. We are located at 1085 Poplar Avenue, close to downtown and near I 240.

We have several projects available for a student to work on this coming semester as well as summer and fall semesters. Assignments would vary depending on the student’s skills and interests, as well as agency priorities. Here are some possible bigger and smaller projects:

- Social media campaigns
- Website content update (we are in the process of gradually updating our website pages and content)
- Assist with PRSA professional development projects (help arrange training events for PRSA members)
- If the student comes this coming semester, he or she can help with promotion of our Works of Heart valentine auction in February and our Annual Children’s Memorial Flagraising ceremony in April. Memphis Area Legal Services (MALS), in partnership with RedRover Sales & Marketing, is offering one University of Memphis journalism student the opportunity to participate in a spring 2013 internship for course credit. The selected student will have a unique opportunity for significant skill development and resume-building experience. Responsibilities include:

  • Managing the MALS Facebook and Twitter profiles — from posting original content to sharing/re-tweeting content from other related organizations/influencers to interacting with key influencers through these channels on behalf of the organization. The ultimate goal is to increase the fan/follower base significantly prior to the general public campaign launch next year.

About MALS: Memphis Area Legal Services is the primary provider of civil legal representation to low-income families in Western Tennessee. 8. ProPublica is seeking an intern to both report and help build
community around our investigative projects with social media and
engagement tools.

The internship will begin in January and last for up to a year. It is
full-time and based in New York. Compensation is $700 per week. There is

Interns will be part of our investigative team focused on quick-turn
reporting that riffs off the news as well as our engagement team, which
works across social networks to build communities around our coverage and

  • Work with Academics to promote class offerings and to highlight different academic areas on the website on a regular basis.
  • Assist with bookstore marketing efforts to increase online purchases.
  • Lead and manage Digital Content Team that will contribute website/digital content from each department/division. Ensure that all content submitted by the Team adheres to MMC’s brand and marketing message as well as its mission statement.
  • Responsible for creating an online product experience for our constituents.

Search Engine Marketing and Social Media Responsibilities

  • Responsible for developing and posting content on designated MMC social media outlets.
  • Cultivate new customers and manage branded online communities using Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and other social media outlets.
  • Provide relevant content daily while tracking metrics and monitoring online content.
  • Implement new functionality to website and in online media as needed to deliver increased brand loyalty.
  • Manage/Optimize both paid search and natural search initiatives to increase web traffic.
  • Work to link MMC’s website to other sites to optimize search engine presence.
  • Find and add MMC’s information to free college information websites for students.

Qualifications/Experience Desired:

  • Has a bachelor’s or associates degree in advertising, marketing, web development or communications.
  • Has a history of 3+ years of professional work experience in Digital Marketing/Business Development
  • Has a history of project management
  • Has the ability to be both creative and analytical in their marketing strategy
  • Has a current working knowledge of Search Engine Marketing, Web Development,  and Social Media
  • Be proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills and an ability to work individually on a project or in a team environment.
